Prep Talk

Today Mama and I were out shopping and chit-chatting about my trip to Australia. We were just thinking in advance of what to pack and what to buy once I am there, etc. Well, I was telling her that I just don't know how I am going to make it on the LONG flight over there and how I will probably be back and forth between the bathroom and my seat in between taking loads of medicine to calm my nerves. So as I am blabbering about the worries of travelling, she mentions what I need to wear on the flight over there. I know what you're thinking; comfort and saving time going through security - ANNHH! She wanted to make sure that I wear an non-synthetic outfit in case the plane were to crash. Well, first thing that comes to my mind is, WHY IS SHE PUTTING THESE THOUGHTS IN MY HEAD?! Then she says, "I'm not saying that you'll crash, but in case you do, you need to have on non-synthetic fabric so that you won't burn as badly." "OMG!!! That will be the least of my worries as we are going down," I told her. After laughing off the fear of the vision of crashing in my head, I told her that I was just going to wear flip-flops so I could get in and out of security quicker and that the amount my skin could burn due to what I'm wearing is the least of my concern. What is this woman thinking?! Besides, I'm going to a new place and want to make a good first impression. Non-synthetic... HA.... I'm not even sure what that fabric is anyway!

On top of preparing for death... I mean flying, I am trying to get the lingo and accent down for going down under. It is my goal to learn/practice a new Australian word every few days. I am not going to be the ignorant blonde from America when I get over there. I get enough of that here! So, today's word is Shelia. Shelia = female. Thanks to the bathrooms at Outback, I already knew that one, but need to work on putting it into my everyday vocabulary. So here goes a try at it....

Name: Lauren Lovelace DOB: 12-8 Sex: Shelia ... well, it's a start!

  3. Non synthetic would be something like cotton. Not a polyester or spandex. However, if your favorite outfit at the time is synthetic, wear it. The plane is not going to crash and you will look fantastic stepping onto the land downunder. Ditch the flip flops though, but maybe something else you can slip your feet in to. And save up some spending money so you can buy what they are wearing over there.
You know the Aboriginals don't wear anything hardly.

  4. I think I'd be looking for clothing that floats. There's a lot of water between here and there. And don't wear red. Sharks love red.

Enjoy your flight and try not to think about being cooped up with all those airborne diseases floating around the cabin for so many hours. Make sure you wear your TB mask and protective goggles. Oh, and don't touch anything or breathe.

    Just my 2¢.
