A Weekend with my Host Mom and the Blues

Sorry it has been so long since a post, but things have been very nonstop over here lately. Last week and this week I have had full control of the class and have spent a lot of time planning and preparing. Today, I had my last observation by my supervisor and it went perfectly! I only have two more regular observations left. This past weekend Mary, Pippa, and I went to Bridgetown, a small town about three hours south of Perth. We were accompanied by about 10 other friends of Pippa's. We all stayed in a cottage about 30km outside of Bridgetown in a place called Donnelly River. It was in a woodsy area (the Aussies call it the bush) and we were surrounded by kangaroos and emus all the time. It was very cool to have a roo hop up to when you walk outside the door. In Bridgetown, they were having their annual festival - The Bridgetown Blues. This reminded me a lot of Memphis with all the blues bands playing and different markets selling random things. However, there was no BBQ and no humidity. In fact, a BBQ to Aussies is when you just grill something. Trust me, it becomes very confusing. Anyway, we spent all of Saturday in Bridgetown at the festival and had a great time. I got a little sun, but nothing too bad. I really enjoyed hanging with Pippa's friends and they were all about learning our words for some terms they use. It became very confusing at times, mainly because there were English folks too and they had other terms they used.

I will be glad when school work slows down and becomes a thing of the past. I have got to get a move on with my online class work. It has been on the back burner and now needs to be a priority. I am spending the rest of my weekends and days off of school touring the city and just doing things around Perth. Next week is Thanksgiving and unfortunately we don't have Thursday off. That Saturday we are having all of the COST girls and their host families over for a big feast. Mary and I were discussing the menu with Pippa last night and she just about died at how many recipes called for lots of sugar. If you're gonna do a meal, you better do it right!

Alright, that's enough from me for now. I only have 8 more mornings to wake up early and go to school. I am sad that my time in Australia is almost up and have been focusing on that so much that I forgot I am actually graduating from college very soon! Ahhhh!!! It's time for me to put my big girl panties on!
