First Night Out

Last night was my first night out since I've been here. John, our coordinator, came and picked us up and took us to Wembley, WA to the Wembley Food Court. This was a food court similar to those found in malls, but only offered different types of Asian food. It was also a BYO place -- Bring Your Own (Wine). BYO's are big here. I ate there with all the other COST students, John, Hazel (his wife), and Renee (his daughter), and some of there family friends who also had children our age.

After dinner, we went to Fremantle (a town south of Perth) and got to know the pub scene of Australia. We were joined by our Aussie friends from dinner and we enjoyed learning the different cultures through conversations. I have learned that Australians are very friendly and are eager to learn about others. As we walked the streets of Freo, we about froze to death from the winter weather. The pubs were similar to those in the
states, but the drinks cost an outrageous amount. After midnight we headed towards the train station to head back to our house. The trains were very nice and I felt very safe traveling from stop to stop. Once we got to our final stop, we hitched a cab back to our house and all crashed at my host home.Today we all slept in until noon. We later got picked up by John and went to the Joondalup Shopping Center to get a few things and eat lunch. I also got to visit the Australian version of Target. WAY DIFFERENT! There was a bigger selection of clothes, but all other sections were slimmer. The name brands were different, too. I tried to use my Target Gift Card to buy some things, but it didn't even register when the guy tried to scan it. Oh well... at least I got to shop!
