Well my second week of my internship has begun. Helen (my teacher) was not there today so I ended up having to do all the lesson planning and teaching all day today. There was a sub in the room, but I did all the work. Luckily on Mondays, we get a two hour planning period in the morning while the kids are at P.E. and music. I was able to pull together a literacy lesson and prepare for my math lesson during that time. Overall I thought I managed the class well for being on my own with them for the first time. My feet were killing by the end of the day, but that's the life of a teacher. I love going to school because I learn something new every day. Like for instance, today I misunderstood what a student was trying to tell me and I said, "What?" to her. She replied with, "It's not What?, it's Pardon." I also get mocked by the kids a lot. It happens more so when I ask them to repeat something and they hear the way I say it. Then when they pronounce it, it will sound similar to my southern accent. However, I do catch myself using phrases that they say. My favorite one is lovely. It just sounds so much better than the word nice.
Tomorrow we are having an entire day dedicated to math. Each classroom will be set up as a station and the students, who will be in mixed-aged groups, will rotate. Oh, and y'all will be happy to know that I cooked dinner for Mary, Pippa, and myself tonight. I made beef strips with cashews. It was very good! I followed the recipe and did not mess one single thing up. I was so proud! I even made white rice to go with it. I added the south's special touch to it, too... butter!
