Happy 09.09.09, Mates!

I was so happy to wake up this morning and be able to breathe again. My sinuses had cleared up enough that I felt like going back to school. It was nice to have energy again!
Today was a regular day, nothing exciting. I did take over Helen's science lesson this morning and finished up teaching the kids about the changes in their bean plants. Luckily, Helen did the other portion of the lesson about the life process which involved those random "please don't ask me the embarrassing ones" questions. These kids have been growing their bean plants for about a month, so I know they are tired of them. Next week, I start teaching full-on and we'll move to talking about physical changes in science. I have also been working on figuring out what to do in the other subject areas for next week. I feel like they spend so much time on literacy and numeracy (math), and they never spend anytime with social studies. I asked Helen this afternoon about incorporating some social studies into my teaching. She said they did the majority of the social studies curriculum (or S & E as they call it - Society & Environment) at the beginning of the year. I will be introducing division to them for maths (they add an s to this subject for some reason). If anyone has any ideas for me, BRING EM ON! I do know that we will be starting our pen pal letters next week. I am curious to see what they say and ask in their letters... and their reactions to some of the names!
Tonight Kendall and I are going to meet up for supper. I think we need that one night during the week to hang out and talk about what all is going on. Plus, we need to plan our "spring" break that is coming up.
