Seriously, this rain and cold weather need to go away! Today we had strong winds and it's so disruptive when you're trying to teach. I taught a literacy lesson today. I continued reading them the book Pirate Princess Pancake and they seem to really get into it. It's probably because I add all these goofy voices just to keep myself entertained. Anyway, we worked on descriptive writing (today's chapters read went hand-in-hand with my lesson) in groups. I gave each group an article of clothing and they had to create a person with the questions I provided them with. I was very amazed at the people they came up with. I also learned who not to group together for future activities. Next week, when I begin teaching all the time, I will continue with the book and add some more activities to go along with it.
I had a funny incident happened today as well. One of my students' parents called up to the school because the kid told his parents last night that a classmate showed him a book at school with naked men in it. This student is new from South Africa so we were a little questionable about his partake on what the other student showed him. Helen had the other student get the book out of her backpack so we could have a look. Turns out, she showed him a book with Greek statues in it. We about died!!! The girl who had the book just thought it was so funny that she found that in a book. They are so innocent at this age that it's funny when they blow little things out of proportion. By the way, the parents thought it was funny.
Another small observation I had today was when I was using the school computer to type an assignment up. I typed in the word favorite on Microsoft Word and it automatically changed it to favourite. It found my word spelled incorrectly. Lots of Australian words like to throw that u in with the o.
And my favorite part of the day... Today was picture day and I got to be a part of my class' group picture. I was so proud! I felt like a real teacher. I was just thankful that I wore something cute and slimming and had my hair just right.
